Sci-Enza is an interactive science centre on the University of Pretoria's Hatfield Campus, where children can explore science by touching, testing, experimenting and solving problems. The centre has more than 200 interactive exhibits covering physics, mathematics, engineering, zoology and technology. Children can investigate scientific ideas through hands-on displays, puzzles, optical illusions, pendulums, animal skeletons and the popular mirror maze. One of Sci-Enza's most unusual attractions is its Camera Obscura — a darkened room containing a system of mirrors and lenses that projects a live, panoramic view of Pretoria onto a viewing table. On a clear day, visitors may see landmarks such as the Union Buildings and even distant traffic in the Magaliesberg area. Sci-Enza also presents facilitated science shows, workshops, robotics and coding activities, mobile planetarium experiences, school-holiday programmes and science-themed birthday visits. These additional programmes generally require advance booking and may carry a fee. General entry to the interactive centre is free, but the University currently requires visitors to arrange an appointment so that campus access can be authorised.
